This year's pantomime of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was performed at the school on Wednesday and Thursday in the week after February half term, with great success. The script was written by Mr Genge, who used Blackadder/ Monty Python/ Goon Show type humour to turn the traditional fairy tale into something much more obscene. The show was directed by Elliott Papworth who once again has used his great drama know-how to piece together a great show. Local costume specialist Fancy Pants, sponsored the show and gave free access to their costumes. The story line was only loosely based upon the traditional fairytale. Like a Shrek movie, other fairytale characters were added, along with tv celebrities such as Jedward to act as the Queen's dogsbodies. Jedward led the way to bring controlled idiocy alive on stage. Some of the antics of this year's show, such as the raunchy dance of the Prince; Mrs Heavens as a Essex-styled Goldilocks; A gangster type Rumplestiltskin and a character which was somewhere between a perverted old soldier combined with Gollum from Lord of the Rings, were absolutely hilarious. Where's Wally was seen to make an appearance, stealing stage props in the background. All these people were a credit to the show, but also to the traditional stupidity associated with Pantomime. The show's lead performers, Snow White and the Queen, both had to learn a huge amount of lines for their roles. The show's narrator only stepped in about three weeks prior to the show. All three performed faultlessly on the nights. The rest of the cast should not be forgotten, for it was they who kept the story's traditional element together so well. All the cast along with stage, lighting and sound crew can be very proud of their efforts. With such a strong base of dramatic talent in our school, future pantomime should be equally as superb.
Well done to all who took part and a big thank you to everyone who attended the performances.
